Overview

Established in 1969 after a merger between the Medical College of Alabama and the Birmingham Extension Center of The University of Alabama, the University of Alabama at Birmingham is a 4-year public institution. UAB is home to 12 colleges and schools conferring degrees in over 120 areas of study. Additionally, UAB is the only Carnegie Tier 1 Research Institution in the state and houses one of the largest academic medical centers in the country. For athletically inclined students, UAB fields 18 men’s and women’s sports teams known as the Blazers.
