Why Cappex became Appily

For nearly twenty years, Cappex helped millions of students search for colleges, discover scholarships, and make more informed decisions about their future.

In 2020, Cappex was acquired by EAB, an education company focused on helping more students find and complete the right postsecondary path. Over time, EAB brought together several student-facing resources into one more connected experience.

That became Appily: a free college planning platform built to help students do more than search. With Appily, students can explore colleges, compare options, find scholarship opportunities, get admissions support, and use Appily Match, our reverse admissions experience that helps colleges connect with students based on one simple profile.

When did Cappex become Appily?

Cappex officially became Appily in 2023. The new name reflects a broader mission: helping students apply with confidence, whether they’re searching for colleges, looking for scholarships, comparing costs, exploring majors, or considering different paths after high school.

The tools students trusted from Cappex are still here. They now live within Appily’s larger college planning experience.

What is Appily Match?

Appily Match is Appily’s direct admissions experience. Instead of students applying to colleges, Appily Match enables participating colleges to identify and extend admission offers to students who may be a good fit.

Students create or update their Appily profiles, and colleges can use that information to share admission offers with students who match their criteria. It’s another way Appily helps students discover schools they might not find on their own.

The connection between Cappex and Appily

Appily was previously known as Cappex. If you see older articles, reports, or links that mention Cappex, they now refer to Appily.

Cappex.com pages now redirect to Appily.com, and the core student resources, scholarship tools, college search features, and partner relationships continue under the Appily brand. The current page already notes that old Cappex URLs redirect to Appily and that partnerships continued under the new brand. 

Why the name changed

The name Appily better reflects what the platform helps students do: apply with more clarity, confidence, and momentum.
