Additional Costs
Room and Board The weighted average for room and board and other expenses is generated as follows:
  • (amount for on-campus room, board and other expenses * # of students living on-campus.
  • + amount for off-campus (with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus with family
  • + amount for off-campus (not with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus not with family)
divided by the total # of students. Students whose living arrangements are unknown are excluded from the calculation. For some institutions the # of students by living arrangement will be known, but dollar amounts will not be known. In this case the # of students with no corresponding dollar amount will be excluded from the denominator.

I took a variety of classes and enjoyed each and everyone of them. My favorite class of my 2008 fall semester was intro to sociology with Dr. George Sanders. We covered a wide range of topics, and Dr. Sanders employed a wide range of teaching techniques. Although I am a music major, and do not necessarily need to know the inns and outs of sociology, I will carry the knowledge I gained from this course with me forever, and I will continue to take sociology classes as electives.
Stacey from Lutz, FL
Oakland University is an involved and exciting school with so much to offer students. A place to learn and explore many options of career choices. A place to meet life long friends.
Yewande from Warren, MI
Oakland University is a very fun, healthy place to be. The campus is beautiful and peaceful, the staff and students are very friendly and open, and the different academic and extracurricular opportunities are fantastic. I not only learned a great deal inside the classroom, but outside the classroom as well, and that made my college experience a lot more enjoyable.
Kaylee
Oakland University has a beautifully well-keep campus and a live community. It is mostly a commuter college but the university is currently working toward new campus housing. The staff are skilled in their fields and are eager to aid students toward graduation.
Krystal from Farmington Hills, MI
Oakland is a very diverse community which I am proud to be a part of. There are it's upsides and downsides, but the friends and connections I have made so far are nothing short of outstanding! I truly feel like I am at home.
Emily from Clyde, MI
OU is a great place to study. With the addition of the new medical school, it's quickly going to the top. It's clean, friendly and so far, I'm really enjoying my classes there.
Zahra
This is an awesome University! Oakland University is known as a hidden gem in Michigan because students strive to go to bigger schools. OU meets and exceeds the other schools I toured because the atmosphere was so friendly.
Marcel from Detroit, MI
Really great University; Oakland has a lot of things to offer and by far is one of the best Universities in the state of Michigan.
Current Student
Oakland University is a mid-sized university of about 20,000 students and 100,000 alumni. It is located in Rochester, Michigan, which Time Money Magazine ranked as one of the top ten best small cities in America; there's lots to do in the surrounding area, many internship and employment opportunities, and a vibrant, diverse community. Oakland boasts strong academics, high placement rates post-graduation, and an amazing location.
Louisa from Clinton Twp., MI
Oakland University is a wonderful university with amazing intelligent teachers. I am a transfer student and all of my credits transferred. Oakland has a reasonable tuition rate and a variety of on campus housing.
