Room and Board The weighted average for room and board and other expenses is generated as follows:
  • (amount for on-campus room, board and other expenses * # of students living on-campus.
  • + amount for off-campus (with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus with family
  • + amount for off-campus (not with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus not with family)
divided by the total # of students. Students whose living arrangements are unknown are excluded from the calculation. For some institutions the # of students by living arrangement will be known, but dollar amounts will not be known. There are many different programs at FSU so you will be surrounded with experienced and helpful faculty. The university is strong in the liberal arts and hard sciences, but they also have a number of other outstanding programs including criminology, sociology, psychology, law, and business. Orientation at FSU was very informative for both my parents and myself. It was a 2-day learning experience that consisted mainly of talks by various campus reps/student leaders. It was a great start where you can meet people from different backgrounds and experiences. I was drawn to find out more about FSU’s medical program. In 2005, the FSU College of Medicine received full accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. The FSU College of Medicine is now ranked among the top 5 in nation for turning out doctors who choose to specialize in family medicine. Medical students will complete their clinical rotations in the third or fourth year at one of these regional campuses in Orlando, Pensacola, Sarasota, Tallahassee, Daytona Beach, and Fort Pierce. This is extremely important to me since my educational goal is to one day become a medical doctor. This may seem like a daunting task, but I believe that if I work hard and set the right goals for myself I can do it. Also, FSU provides enormous research opportunities that are supported by the school of Computational Science and Informational Technology and the famous the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory. The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory is the world’s largest magnetic of it’s kind. FSU is an excellent university, but you will need to work very hard.

I took on my entire liberal arts degree in the 1st year so I definitely got a lot out of all the classes I took. As long as you put in the effort you will get the most out of the classes at FSU.
Kaila from Pompano Beach, FL
I've learned a lot about myself, my state, and my prospective major. Moving to Florida State University was the best decision I've ever made.
Turner from Tallahassee, FL
Professors are very well educated and are acquainted with the course material. They also offer extended office hours to assist students with questions.
Jenna from orange park, FL
Everyday whether from the teachers or other students there is always knowledge to be gained.
Kevina from Orlando, FL
Whether you take classes taught by professors or graduate students you are guaranteed to expand your knowledge immensely! Every person on our faculty is incredibly knowledgeable and a great resource for students. I have learned something new everyday that I have been here, whether it was directly from my teachers or something that spawned from their class discussions and other student participation.
Kristin from Tallahassee, FL
The professors I've had so far are extremely knowledgeable at what they are sharing. Teaching is what they love doing, so a tip for all prospective students is to talk to your professors outside of class.
Aysley from Shalimar, FL
Florida State is the best possible school that I could have chosen to go to. There is always something to do on campus, whether it be one of the 600+ clubs, go to the library, or simply playing frisbee on Landis Green with some friends. Nothing compares to game day in Tallahassee.
Tanner from Cape Coral, FL
I am currently in my second year at The Florida State University and couldn't be happier. All of my teachers and teacher assistants have been nothing but helpful in every aspect of my education. The professors are always accessible, no matter how big a class you are enrolled in. I have enjoyed the subject matter in the majority of my required classes as well.
Jennifer from Tampa, FL
The classes are challenging and interesting. Our professors are extremely knowledgeable in their fields and are helpful to students who are willing to learn.
