Overview
Founded in 1855, Berea College is a liberal arts college in Kentucky and the first coed and interracial college in the south. Berea confers bachelor’s degrees in 32 academic majors and the college provides free tuition to all students through the Tuition Promise Scholarship program. As one of the only work colleges in the United States, all students sign a Labor Enrollment Agreement requiring them to work 10 to 15 hours a week on or off campus. In addition to classroom facilities, the Berea campus features the bell hooks Institute honoring the life and career of the celebrated writer and feminist.
