Review of Berea College

from WI

Describe your college in three sentences.

There are simply no words to describe my experience at Berea College. This place changed my life! Aside from its stellar academics, outstanding work-study program, and culture of service and stewardship, this institution was HOME during my four-year experience as a college student.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

College was simply a dream, and Berea College made it possible to achieve that dream. Berea College was the best place to grow up and become an adult, and I haven't found a place that is as welcoming and open since my college days. This institution is the reason I have a career today. THANK YOU BC! Proud Alum!

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

I'm so thankful for my professors who pushed me to excel in academics. I was way ahead of my peers when I started graduate school, and all thanks to the dedication and commitment of Berea's faculty.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

Dry campus. Dry town. Still old-fashioned about separate sex dorms. This may not change ever, but I'm thankful to have grown alongside my closest friends in the dorms.

Describe the food and dining at your college.

Dining services is a lot improved since my college days. There's a really nice facility for campus dining. Super cheap!

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

Does midnight runs to Walmart count? If you have a car, there's plenty to do in Richmond. Berea isn't your average 21st century college town. No bars! No movie theater! If you like pizza, Papaleno's is the best in town!

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

You are never going to find another US college for tuition free! Enough said!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Separate sex dorms. Berea is very much old-fashioned about curfews.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

First generation college students. LGBTQ. Students from low income/poverty families. Non-traditional college students. Students with families.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

This small college boasts of a rich and diverse co-curricular life. No social fratenities or sororities.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

None.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

Small campus. Can get from one end to the other in 10 mins (walking).
