Room and Board The weighted average for room and board and other expenses is generated as follows:
  • (amount for on-campus room, board and other expenses * # of students living on-campus.
  • + amount for off-campus (with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus with family
  • + amount for off-campus (not with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus not with family)
divided by the total # of students. Students whose living arrangements are unknown are excluded from the calculation. For some institutions the # of students by living arrangement will be known, but dollar amounts will not be known. At Winston Salem State University I have learned a ton of new things, and also I have fun while learning and that's the best part! Some of the new things I have learned are the proper ways to write persuasive essays, how to act as an adult (being responsible), and being a team player to just name a few. Not only do I learn things from the professors but also the students that I am around daily, and that helped me a lot with it being my first year there.
Brittany from Durham, NC
Winston Salem State is a school of excellence. Many of the professors are willing to take time out to make sure one is understanding the information at hand by allowing tutuoring at various times of the day. So far while attending Wssu I have learned how to write many different types of papers, I have gained many leadership skills, learned to become a reponsible adult, and the other students are well rounded and caring individuals for the most part . Winston Salem State makes sure that its students Enter to learn and Depart to serve.
Kendra from Greensboro, NC
Winston-Salem State University is a beautiful, elegant campus! The staff here go the extra mile for you, and it is easy to get the help you need to graduate. The campus also has various activities throughout the year and tons of student organizations worth joining.
Shae from Oxford, NC
The classes are small and you have more of a chance to talk with your teacher and get help if you need it. There is also a tutoring center where you can go get help if you need it. The teacher's challenge you and try to help you succeed in any way possible.
Shanelle from Laurinburg, NC

This school is a very small school, but we are all one big family. If you are looking for a school with great credentials, friendly people and a place to focus, WSSU is the place for you. I absolutely love it here.
Khayla from Colerain, NC
WSSU is an excellent HBCU of choice.
WSSU is a relatively small campus, you will not get lost.
WSSU creates and encourages great leaders.
Brittany from Durham, NC
WSSU is a great school to get involved! The class sizes are fairly small, so sometimes you get to know your professor well. Also, there are many new buildings getting built on campus (the Student Activities Center for example) so you are sure to enjoy yourself.
Mariah from Fayetteville, NC
