Additional Costs
Room and Board The weighted average for room and board and other expenses is generated as follows:
  • (amount for on-campus room, board and other expenses * # of students living on-campus.
  • + amount for off-campus (with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus with family
  • + amount for off-campus (not with family) room, board and other expenses * # of students living off-campus not with family)
divided by the total # of students. Students whose living arrangements are unknown are excluded from the calculation. For some institutions the # of students by living arrangement will be known, but dollar amounts will not be known. In this case the # of students with no corresponding dollar amount will be excluded from the denominator.

great academics
small class sizes will work with me (20-30)
professors care about their students
Yasamin from El Cajon, CA
The University of San Diego offers an wide variety of opportunities to expand your academic interests. Ranging from an excellent student to professor ratio (1:15; no teacher assistants) to flexible professor office hours to academic clubs, student stress levels on campus are low leaving you study in a comfortable environment. Professors will always offer a hand to a knowledge hungry student!
Daniel from Littleton, CO
I am a freshman who is a science major. The teachers in the science are so knowledge and very available to help every student. I also found my Calculus 2 teacher to be very helpful and found that class great. Overall I enjoyed all my teachers including the one from the English department too. The teachers usually will know your name before a month is over and helps you in anyway that they can.
Erin from Auburn, WA
I am a current freshman at USD. The first semester is tough academically, but only because it is so different from high school. I have learned so much more that I would have ever thought possible. The average class size is about 20 to 35 students, but some have less. Every professor is more than willing to meet with you outside of class if you feel it necessary, and that is extremely helpful! The professors are very knowledgeable and know their subject field very well. I would say that overall the academics are very good!
Madeline from Huntington Beach, CA
The professors are all great and know what they are talking about. The professors will actually know your name by the end of the semester, and there are no aids teaching the classes. The classes are small and generally don't overwhelm you with work.
Danielle from Chula Vista, CA
this school offers a diverse curriculum. studying abroad is heavily encouraged, and mandatory for multiple majors. the professors want you to succeed, you need only ask!
Scott from San Diego, CA
The USD campus is one of the most beautiful around - set on a hilltop a few minutes from the ocean, with Mission-style architecture and stunning views. Academically, there is an ideal balance with small classes and attentive professors that push students enough to learn and feel challenged, but not so difficult that students cannot have a social life or outside interests. And the best part about USD is the student body - a diverse population of students who are engaged in learning and the importance of a good education.
Sam from Morrison, CO
Most of the teachers are phenomenal, but I find most students report that their math classes are difficult, due to some teachers not being able to relay the information effectively. They are geniuses, but this seems to be a common theme in the math department. The teachers are there to help you succeed, and are required to have office hours, where you can come to them with any questions or guidance you may need.
Garrett from LA Mirada, CA
Great professors, small classes, and great study environment if you go looking for it. The core can be fun and interesting and once you get past that into what you want to major in they only get better.
Clifford from Placerville, CA
I'm taking 5 Gen Ed Class (There's a ton required, so be prepared for that!) and they are challenging, but I don't feel like I'm flailing either!
