Germanna Community College is school that seeks to give each student a personal experience. Due to the small class sizes of about 30, there is a strong amount of communication between the teacher and the student. Every teacher I have had has sought to enhance clarity and the chance of sucess for each of their students - it's cool.

Tips for prospective students
Obviously hard work is key in any situation. My advice would be to take advantage of the easy acess you have to your professors. Also, figure out where you want to go after Germanna as soon as possible, and work with the academic advisors to mold your schedule around that.
Academic Rigor
I think that something bad happens if your gpa drops below 2.0, but Germanna is more focused on their students suceeding and making a strong transition to the next level than they are on academic rigor (aka: school bragging rights). That being said, there are quite a few clubs, and honor societies that allow students to further distinguish themselves.

Dorm Life
There is a freindly classroom atmosphere and a lot of networking outside of class, but there is no dorm life (community college).
Food and Dining
We have a Ledo's Piza that serves some good food, but our vending machines are awful; maybe it's because they never accept my card (is that too personal?).

What to do for fun
Since there isn't the type of campus that would be expected in a four year school, one's opportunities for fun depends on how well they connect with others. If you actively seek to make friends with your peers, you can all enjoy yourselves outside of campus.
Bang for the buck
Starting with community college is the most financially savy way to go about your college experience, and Germanna is no exception to that. It's actually more affordable than another community college close by, whose name I wont mention.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
There is an annual fair where virtually every 4 year school in Virginia sets up a booth and talks to the students about the opportunities that they offer.
Great for these types of students
This college is great for students who can't afford four years of monstrous tuition.
Also for students who are smart enough to know that even if they can afford it, it's still ridiculous. |

Campus Safety
A very safe campus located in a very safe area. Many campus security men driving around as well; one of them helped me restart my car.

Its great for students who do not know what they want to do because it gives a broad overview to those students who cannot figure out if they want to go to college or where they want to go to college or even what they want to do in college.

Did learn a lot
The professors were generally pretty good. They all knew their subjects fairly well and really wanted to help students improve themselves. I ran into a few bad apples but they're few and far between.
Did enjoy being here
I loved being at Germanna because I was so involved with everything. The trick to really enjoying any college experience is to get involved with activities that really hold your interest. If you can't find any, start your own or try something new. I loved that Germanna had so many events going on even though it was a community college.
Bang for the buck
A GREAT way to start your college career so long as you qualify for in-state tuition. I only spent a couple thousand dollars each semester which is WELL below any four year school.
Tips for prospective students
Get involved as soon as you can. The different clubs around campuses can be hard to pin down but once you meet someone who is involved or go to a first meeting, you'll find that the atmosphere is great the students really do care about their clubs.

Am learning a lot

All of my professors at Germanna make themselves very available and approachable. There are also numerous tutoring services available that are accessible to everyone.
Am enjoying being here
I thoroughly enjoy being at Germanna because it has a very personal atmosphere. Classes are no larger then 30 students so each student gets the attention and assistance that they need. It is not overwhelming and very comfortable to adjust too.
Bang for the buck
One of the main reasons I chose Germanna is because it is such a great deal for your money. It is much less expensive then a lot of other schools but the education is not cheap. You still receive a high-quality and respectable education.
Tips for prospective students
Stay involved. Germanna has a lot of activites for the students enrolled there. Some are just for fun but a lot are very beneficial to you. They keep you well-informed and taken care of as long as you stay in the loop.
