Germanna Community College is school that seeks to give each student a personal experience. Due to the small class sizes of about 30, there is a strong amount of communication between the teacher and the student. Every teacher I have had has sought to enhance clarity and the chance of sucess for each of their students - it's cool.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
Obviously hard work is key in any situation. My advice would be to take advantage of the easy acess you have to your professors. Also, figure out where you want to go after Germanna as soon as possible, and work with the academic advisors to mold your schedule around that.
Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?
I think that something bad happens if your gpa drops below 2.0, but Germanna is more focused on their students suceeding and making a strong transition to the next level than they are on academic rigor (aka: school bragging rights). That being said, there are quite a few clubs, and honor societies that allow students to further distinguish themselves.
Describe the dorm life at your college.
There is a freindly classroom atmosphere and a lot of networking outside of class, but there is no dorm life (community college).
Describe the food and dining at your college.
We have a Ledo's Piza that serves some good food, but our vending machines are awful; maybe it's because they never accept my card (is that too personal?).
What’s there to do for fun at your college?
Since there isn't the type of campus that would be expected in a four year school, one's opportunities for fun depends on how well they connect with others. If you actively seek to make friends with your peers, you can all enjoy yourselves outside of campus.
Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?
Starting with community college is the most financially savy way to go about your college experience, and Germanna is no exception to that. It's actually more affordable than another community college close by, whose name I wont mention.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
There is an annual fair where virtually every 4 year school in Virginia sets up a booth and talks to the students about the opportunities that they offer.
Which types of students will excel at your college?
This college is great for students who can't afford four years of monstrous tuition.
Also for students who are smart enough to know that even if they can afford it, it's still ridiculous.
Are you involved in any clubs or activities?
Student Government Association
GCC Cares Club
Ratio Christi
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK)
Student Nursing Council
American Society of Mechanical Engineers
Student Veteran's Association
Transfer Student Union
Are you involved in any clubs or activities?
Virtually none... unless you want to count Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?
A very safe campus located in a very safe area. Many campus security men driving around as well; one of them helped me restart my car.
