Overview

Originally founded in the early 19th century as St. Francis Xavier Seminary, the Athenaeum of Ohio is a Roman Catholic seminary in Cincinnati and America’s third oldest Catholic seminary. The Athenaeum is home to Mount St. Mary’s Seminary featuring Priestly Formation and Permanent Deacon Formation programs. For laypersons, the Athenaeum offers master’s degrees in Pastoral Ministry, Biblical Studies, Catholic Studies, and Theology. As part of the formation program for future priests and deacons, the Athenaeum holds a number of spiritual events throughout the year including formation conferences and a seminarian retreat.
