Here at NMSU my classes are engaging and focus on all aspects. You don't just spend your time reading out of the book, but rather applying the practices to your life. You will always find meaning to take from your classes.

NMSU is the perfect school for me. It's far enough away from home that I have my independence, but Las Cruces is such a college community that it's like having your family here. All over the city people are watching the games, coming to support events and overall being completely supportive of your college experience!
|
Bang for the buck

When I first started looking at colleges, money was definitely a factor. NMSU has helped me in that area by providing scholarships for grades, your major and miscellaneous things.

Tips for prospective students

Have fun. I know that you come to college to get your degree, get out into the real world, but enjoy it while you're here! Go out, join clubs, make friends and open your eyes to the world in front of you.

Personally, I know so many types of students that I think anyone can find a place for them here at NMSU.

I'm an Animal Science major, and I've learned more in the past few months then I've learned in the past few years. With hands on labs, and discussions in your lectures you get to learn by actually doing! I have a variety of classes, and you will to. If you want to try something, they'll schedule it in. I have a hands on lab, and in this lab I've done everything from herding sheep to checking inside a cows stomach. The experience is unforgetable!

NMSU has a beautiful very large campus. It's very green with quite a few trees. It's definately very different from where I came from, so I do get occasionally home sick. The people are great, and the food isn't to bad. The dorms are a bit small, but you're never in your dorm anyway. It's definately an experience sharing your room with someone.

New Mexico State is definately an affordable college. Tuition is practically nothing! I'm paying 5,000 for the year, 18 credit hours this semester, and 18 credit hours next semester. Dorm room and meal plans are a bit pricey, but they're definately worth it!

APPLY EARLY! My biggest fault was changing my mind at the last minute. I was only able to get loans because I didn't meet the March 1st deadline for scholarships. So always be on top of your deadlines. And have fun! The first few weeks I just studied. Keep a healthy balance of social activities as well as academics. I now do Zumba, have a part time job, and hang out with friends. Even though I've been studying less, my grades are still going up because I'm happy. I'm balanced and thus better able to stay focused.

Living here I've met so many different types of people. As long as you want to be in college, you'll love it here! We have everything from party girl sorotities to nerd clubs. There is definately something for everyone. The unique thing here is that everyone is so friendly! I was walking infront of my dorms and got invited to hookah by just walking by. Everyone is so nice here, and they accept everyone. My friends consist of everything from football players to goths. No one is ever left out here, and thats what I love about it!

I am a junior studying Music Education here at NMSU and I have to say the music program as well as the school is very good. Besides the music professors, all other professors of all different majors are good and helpful. In high school, I didn't think music would be hard and that there was more to it than the obvious. I have taken up to 19 credits since my freshman year and I keep learning more and more each semester. In the general education courses each student needs to take, there are also laboratory courses. These help you a lot! If you are not strong in a science course, going to the lab will help you because it is a hands on course. If it's geology, you work with rocks and maps. The professors are great and will help you if possible.

Since the first day I moved into the dorms here at NMSU, I have met a lot of great and fun people. I have made great friendships but have also maintained my hometown friends. Even if you are form out of state, I can assure you will find long lasting friendships here. There is always an event going on almost every day of each week. I am in the PRIDE Marching Band and always perform at the pep rallies for the games, and a lot of people go to them. Prizes and free food are always given out to the attendees. If you like to socialize or just have a good time at the Student's center, you will love it here!

Money! Money! Money! I didn't really had to think about money when I was in high school, but when I was a senior in high school, that was the very first thing that popped into my head when applying to colleges. If you are having that same situation now, don't worry about it too much when applying to NMSU. The tuition here is less than how it is at UTEP, which is in my hometown of El Paso. I pay 2,856 per semester and it is easy to pay with or without loans. There are a lot of scholarships offered here for just being involved in an organization, having good grades, and for working too. Either way, you should still apply for financial aid if in case the tuition is over your budget. Grants are also useful!

The main tip I have for you is to apply to NMSU right away and fill out your FAFSA form, along with scholarships. Plan everything ahead of time! My first year was a little tough with money because I didn't plan it very well. The dorm I lived in and the meal plan I had was pricey but there are cheaper dorms and meal plans. I rushed things with living and food but it was still worth it. I met most of my friends in the dorms and I didn't know how to cook, so I ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day at our Taos cafeteria.

If you are a person from artistic to just being a regular student, you will not feel left out here at NMSU. I was never popular in high school but once I started college, I met a lot of people from different backgrounds. This happened because 1) I lived on campus and wherever I'd be walking, everyone was friendly and I felt welcomed even if they didn't say a word to me, 2) I was part of one of the biggest organizations on campus, the PRIDE Marching Band. I always went to the school events and all types of people went too. It is really great and comforting knowing that everyone gets along with who ever. If you don't like going out to parties or events, you can also meet great people by just studying at Corbett Center. Every student hangs out, eats, and does homework here. So, now it's up to you if all of these great qualities meet your requirements in a university. I hope my review helped you and hope to see you walking on campus!

I can defiantly say I am learning a great deal of knowledge. My courses are preparing me for my career as an Elementary Educator. The classes provide the material gradually without making it overwhelming.

I am actually from Yuma Arizona so going to an out-of-state school was out of the question. However, the university provides a tuition reduction program called Western Undergraduate Exchange Program, this program allows me to attend this out-of-state college while paying the in state tuition opposed to the out-of-state. I am very happy to say that the tuition is very low and reasonable.

Tips for prospective students

Use the professor's office hours to obtain assistance out of class. This will help with understanding the material clearly.

NMSU has a lot to offer, the textbook is very useful in that it helps understand the hands on activities done in the classroom, but the learning is not bound to that textbook it goes beyond that. the majority of instructors want to see you succeed, they are willing to help you understand the material. there is also a good tutoring center here as well.

NMSU is surrounded by Hispanic culture which helps this place be more of a community it is a lot of fun; if your from out of town you will walk into a place that will make your family even bigger. there is plenty of student activities that get you involved with the community and help you get to know others.

New Mexico State University would receive a 9.5 on a scale of 1to 10. Mainly because I have taken the opportunity to go through the campus and see some of the programs that some students have taken. It would be a great privilege to be able to attend a school in which i have grown to love.

Food and Dining

The best food in NMSU is at the Taos restaurant. Its a buffet that contains a huge variety of delicious food. So no matter what one's preference is, they will find this place enjoyable. Also around campus there are lots of little cafe's and restaurants which give student discounts and not to mention they are also really good.

New Mexico State provides many learning opportunities and many different styles of teaching. In fact, in my classes at NMSU, I find that I spend a lot of time outside of the classroom gaining hands on experience with people there to guide me every step of the way to ensure that greatest possible learning experience. Most of the professors are very flexible and will go out of their way to see you succeed, whether that means staying after class, meeting in or out of office hours, or making sure your questions are answered before they continue with their lecture.

NMSU provides opporutnities both in and out of school for students of all walks of life in the form of student groups, competitive teams, intermural sports, and numerous others. It is very important to get involved in your school and NMSU provides so many opportunities that if you do not find one that fits your needs, you must not be looking. The teachers and staff are friendly and the campus is clean and easy to get around with many forms of transportations services.
Not only is the school great. The town is as well. Las Cruces in general is very easy to get around and you will find that the people are friendly. |
Bang for the buck

NMSU is one of the most cost efficient schools in the country, welcoming students from all over the world into its unique atmosphere as it is easier to pay for than numerous other schools while still offering a great education.
In addition, scholarships are abundant at NMSU and the desire to see their students succeed is reflected in the amount of money that is rewarded to students in the form of scholarships and grants every year. |
Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the opportunities and services presented to you by NMSU. Get involved in student groups and organizations and learn as much as you can. Have fun, but most importantly, bring many pairs of shorts, as it rarely gets very cold in Las Cruces at NMSU!!!

NMSU is great for students who come from a rural community and students who desire the feel of a smaller school with all of the opportunities of a larger university. Students who are seeking a well rounded learning experience that includes both in-class lectures and hands on learning will find that this school fits their needs.

I grew up in a small town where it was very easy to get by in high school. I never had homework and almost never had to study. Getting into college seemed like it would be extremely hard to adjust to, however I have learned so much on how to be prosperous in college and never fall behind. There are so many teachers and staff members willing to help you with any problem. I have learned so much in only two months and not once have I felt behind or lost.

I absolutely love the campus and the town. The town is small enough that the entire campus is on one block. This makes it so much easier to walk to all of my classes and to anything essential I may need to go to. The people are nice and willing to help you.

The campus financial aid department here worked wonders for me. I do not know where i would go to school if it were not for the help I received from these staff members here. They made it so i never fall behind in debt, yet my monthly payments are small enough that I can accomodate to.

Allot of students come to school here for aggriculture or engineering purposes, however there is a pre-med program and many other programs for any type of student. Also, there is always one-on-one help offered by the professors so any time a student has questions or concerns, their teacher is always available and open to helping their students pass.
