Overview

Founded in 1575 by William, Prince of Orange, Leiden University is the oldest institution of higher learning in the Netherlands with two locations in Leiden and The Hague. A founding member of the League of European Research Universities, Leiden is home to seven faculties in the arts, humanities, and sciences conferring degrees. The university offers 17 English-taught bachelor’s and 80 English-taught master’s programmes, as well as hosts over 40 national and international research institutes. In addition to classroom space, the Leiden campus features Hortus Botanicus, the oldest botanical gardens in the Netherlands.
