Overview
The Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts is a fine arts graduate school designed for students who wish to earn a degree beyond an MFA. The IDSVA confers a 3-year PhD in Philosophy, Aesthetics, and Art Theory which combines distance learning and intensive residencies and culminates in a 2-year dissertation. The PhD program is hosted by residency sites in the artistic capitals of Europe as well as New York City and Colby College.
