Review of Bergen Community College

from Wyckoff, NJ

Do you feel you’re learning a lot?

A lot of people I know think that a community college will give you an inferior education, as opposed to a 4 year institution. This past semester I took an Introduction to Human Services class and I learned so many new things. A friend of mine at a private college in Massachusetts was taking a similar class and I knew everything she was talking about, because Bergen had already taught it to me.

Do you enjoy the experience at your school?

I was nervous about going to community college when most of my friends were going out of state, but I have found friends and clubs in which I can take part in. I find many classmates outgoing & friendly, especially in my honors classes, but in other classes as well.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

I'm attending Bergen Community with the NJ STARS scholarship program, so it is very cost-effective for me. Because of that scholarship, the only costs I have each semester are my books and fees. The bookstore could definitely be a little bit cheaper, but from what I've heard, that's how it is across the board.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Get involved, take a tour, go to orientation. Some people I know complained about not getting to know anyone, but a lot of those people didn't take initiative to join anything. Taking a tour is always good , or just checking out where your classrooms are BEFORE the first day of class, because that can help you to not get lost & cut down on your stress.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

Bergen Community is great for any students. It is so diverse and accommodating. If you are a parent, working, older, younger, whoever you are, it is not hard to get involved in a class at Bergen.
