Review of Auburn University

from Mobile, AL

Do you feel you’re learning a lot?

The academics are good. Some of the classes are tougher than others, but overall you do get an education.

Do you enjoy the experience at your school?

I hate it here. If you want a place filled with sororities, fraternities, football, drinking, and closed minded people, go ahead. Nothing matters but football. The only topics I've heard talked about have been, clothing, parties, and football. If you're a minority student. Don't even bother. I am mixed (White, Black, and Native American) and it never occurred to me that people would look at me differently until now. People here are all alike. Skinny, white, preppy, with Nike shorts and a sorority shirt for the girls, and suit and tie or whatever their fraternity demands for the guys. There is no free thinking. There is no creativity. There is no art. I'm planning on leaving. This place is NOT for me.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

You do receive a ton of rewards for your money. The tiger transit is very nice, and the tutoring services are great. Many times you'll see something and people will say 'Oh, it's covered in your tuition'.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

You may want to think twice if you come from a smaller (particularly close knit) school. You can make it here, it all depends on your preference. I would say a rule of thumb is if you like football and parties most nights (but can do your work, too) then you should be fine. Non-party people, particularly those that like humanities as well, find another school
