Missing in History
DoSomething.org
The Problem:
In 2015, a major textbook was edited because a published version described slavery as "workers from Africa" who were brought to "work on agricultural plantations." This kind of "erasure" -- omitting or misrepresenting figures and events -- happens in lots of textbooks on many subjects.
The Solution:
Make your own bookmark featuring an often-forgotten historical figure or event. Use our easy guide to make your bookmark.
Insert the bookmark into a school textbook to teach the truth about missing figures and events. When you make a bookmark and send us a picture, you’ll be entered to win a
scholarship. Plus, we’ll donate in your name to the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC.
