Captain John G. Gardner, USMC, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Scholarship
Community Foundation of Western North Carolina
This scholarship is for graduating high school seniors who live in the following western North Carolina counties: Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, or Yancey. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be the descendent (child, stepchild, or grandchild) of an active-duty decorated Vietnam War veteran. They must also be graduating from a public or private school in an eligible county and plan to attend an accredited US community college or four-year college/university on a full-time basis in the fall following the award. Selection will be based on demonstrated financial need, sound academic performance, and plans to enroll full-time in college/university. Applicants will be required to submit a Vietnam service medal or ribbon and a DD214 for the qualifying relative's military proof of sponsor.
