As a pre-med student at WMU I am required to take very challenging classes. However, I have done extremely well and have made the Dean's List every semester that I have been here. This is due partially to my hard work and focus, and also because of the Professors. I have had only one bad Professor during my time here thus far; they are far less common than the good ones. The majority of Professors are enthusiastic about teaching, care about their students (even though they may have hundreds) and try very hard to make time to meet with you/accommodate you if you have questions or are struggling. Everyone at Western wants you to be successful.
Do you enjoy the experience at your school?
I have always been the student that liked learning and going to school, but I was worried that might change in college because it is harder than high school. I didn't need to worry. I really like WMU a lot. The campus is beautiful and clean. Students are active and healthy, there is not too much of the freshman weight gain happening as much. The only thing that I dislike would be its reputation as a party school. I am not a big party-person, but I am worried medical schools may view me as one because of where I went to undergrad and think I am unfocused. Hopefully my resume and transcript will counteract that.
Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?
Western is one of the most affordable universities in Michigan. I do not come from a family with much money and I am paying for my education myself. Western has been very helpful in providing me with enough financial aid and scholarships to pay for my education.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
Make sure that your intended major is a major offered by WMU. We have a huge selection to choose from but there are few types not provided such as architecture.
Don't get caught up in partying a lot or your grades will suffer and you will regret it later as some of my friends have learned.
