The University of Wisconsin-River Falls is a great school where everyone can find a place to fit in. Here, the teachers care about your success and actually love to feed your passion of knowledge. An opportunity for growth in any area of expertise is available while you can have fun at the same time.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
Attend some of the events from Welcome Week. It may seem like they are a waste of time but you do get a chance to meet lots of people. There are plenty of things to do on campus all the time and there is a day where you can explore all the clubs on campus located in the center of campus for a day. Even then, you can find them all online and join then.
I would also recommend on trying new things. It is a cliche but you might find something new that you enjoy. Once again, it'll help you find friends.
Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?
This is a difficult category to accurately measure. The difficulty depends on the classes you are taking and your strengths. However, in case you hit a rut, there are many tutors available during many times of the day that have passed the classes with at least a B. Also, many of the teachers here take the time and effort to help whenever you have time. It is mandatory that these teachers have some office hours during the week specifically designed to help the students and even then, they are more than willing to setup an appointment in order to answer any of your questions. It's only hard if you make it hard for yourself. Do not be afraid to ask any questions.
Describe the dorm life at your college.
Like other colleges, a resident assistant (RA) is available on your floor to answer any questions or settle any arguments between you and your roommate. However, their main function is to inform you of any rules, upcoming events, and other information during certain times of the year (holidays, finals week, etc.). It is also safe to say that you may not like your hall/roommate. There is a chance factor where you might get a very quiet hall or very loud hall. Whether you like one more than the other, the chance of getting either is equal. As mentioned before, your RA is there to find a balance between these two different scenarios.
Describe the food and dining at your college.
There is always variety at UWRF. There are multiple locations where you can use dining dollars (depends on your meal plan) or meal transfers. They are all located in the center of campus in one building so you don't have to travel to the opposite of campus in order to eat a bagel that you want for breakfast. We have an Erberts and Gerberts, mexican, american, and plenty of other venues. In the main lunchroom, there's a sandwich section with deli meats, a pizza section, a gluten free section, and others as well. Keep in mind that you can eat in your own room if you don't choose any of these venues. However, don't be afraid to try something you've never eaten before.
What’s there to do for fun at your college?
This also depends on the type of person you are. However, there are always things you can find that are exciting. There are drag shows, karaoke nights, movie nights, etc. If you are shyer, you can just hang out with the people you know in the movie rooms located in the halls. Or if you a nature person, you can visit the park nearby and visit the falls. There are plenty of opportunities to have fun.
Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?
Compared to other schools, you save an incredible amount of money. Cost for books are very cheap in total because they have their own textbook library where you can sign them out under your name. You only ever have to pay for the books if you damage them or return them late.
