Review of University of Wisconsin-Platteville

from Crystal Lake, IL

Do you feel you’re learning a lot?

Many of the classes are incredibly simple. The higher level classes are much better, but anything 2000 and bellow, you are treated as if you are a freshman in high school. It's really frustrating to be taught an education that is greatly toned down and edited. The number of required survey classes for general education just makes this experience extended for all four years...

Do you enjoy the experience at your school?

There are plenty of nice people and professors, but it's also very slow paced. Nothing as exciting as an in city college, but if that is what you wanted, there is no problem with this school. It seems as if most people here aren't top tier intellectuals, so if you don't want to feel intimidated by a lot of intelligent students, here is the place to be as well.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

It's super inexpensive and offers several great scholarships. Without scholarships though, it is still one of the cheapest universities around. It offers tons of programs and accepts AP credit for any class they have.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Make sure to apply early for scholarships very early, otherwise even a transcript with a 4.0 won't be rewarded. Do it while applying for the school.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

For people who have been admitted, make sure to research your professors. Many are foreign and impossible to understand. It's always much easier to learn from a professor who speaks your language as their primary one, unless they have a lot of experience in the language. Many here don't have that experience.
