Review of University of Wisconsin Colleges

Describe your college in three sentences.

Attending University of Wisconsin has been a challenge I have loved rising to meet. It's large and diverse student body has opened the doors to so many new opportunities that I believe I have taken full advantage of. I have never lived in such a beautiful place and loved going to school as much as I do at University of Wisconsin.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Don't waste any time, get involved with as much as possible right away! It is the best way to get familiar with a new campus and meet tons of new friends. Take the time to go through every syllabus and map out your semester at the very beginning. You will know what to expect every week. Attend the forums and events held for students curious about different aspects of the rest of their time in school (i.e. studying abroad). Go out and enjoy everything Madison has to offer. The school is known for its social life for a reason!

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

It is manageable if you don't slip behind!

Describe the dorm life at your college.

The dorms are so much fun, I made some of my greatest friends from a random placement on the same dorm floor. The more social you are right away in the year the better your year will be.

Describe the food and dining at your college.

Much much better than expected.

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

Take advantage of all the lake activities! Learn to sail, rent a canoe, go to concerts on the terrace, hike out to picnic point, and go swimming. There are some great concerts at the Majestic and the Orpheum almost every weekend. Try going greek! There are so many fun opportunities if you are involved in a sorority or fraternity. Wisconsin has a great greek community. Work out at the SERF. Wisconsin's athletic facility is one of the nicest I have ever been in and it is free to students!

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

All your school tuition fees are one hundred percent worth it for the quality of education I feel I am getting at Wisconsin. However, the price of living is a little higher than other schools.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Picnic Point- beautiful trail leading out to a peninsula on the lake great for camp fires, running destination, camping. Bascom HIll- students lay outside and do homework on Bascom Hill whenever it is nice out. Camp Randall- the best football games you will ever go to. Historical Society- the most beautiful place to study. Stain glass ceilings and leather chairs are so amazing! College Library-a very social library where you get to know so many people on campus. State Street- Closed off to all traffic, state street has over a hundred shops, restaurants, and apartments all leading up to capital square with the beautiful capital building. On saturday mornings the farmer's market attracts hundreds of people.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

Hoofers: outdoor fun of all kinds, every season

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

Great balance between the amazing crazy fun traditions of Greek Life without the very intense atmosphere of a southern school.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

U of Wisconsin offers many resources to stay safe on campus. There are free bus systems that run into the night, volunteer students who work to escort you home at night, cab services, and both campus and city police. Very important to be aware of your surroundings as it is a city.
