Review of University of Saint Joseph

from North Andover, MA

Describe your college in three sentences.

The University of Saint Joseph offers a challenging academic undergraduate program. The work is difficult but the professors will never let you fail. The University of Saint Joseph is a great school to challenge yourself, perfect your time management skills, and it will give you the chance at fantastic opportunities you could not get anywhere else.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Be ready to work hard. College is very different than high school. It is easy to get caught up in the large amount of free time you have. The University of Saint Joseph is a small university which is great because it allows you to have a better relationship with your professors. They can and will help you succeed.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

There are a lot of assignments for each course. It can get overwhelming, especially since the work is challenging. The goal is not to make you suffer, but rather to challenge yourself to get the most out of your education and to work on your time management skills.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

A lot of students go home on the weekends which means that dorms are usually quiet which can be nice. For the most part, the bathrooms and showers are clean. In terms of the dorm rooms, they are a decent size. You have everything you need: a bed with a mattress, a desk and chair, drawers, shelves, and a closet per person. It takes a little while but eventually it starts to feel like a second home.

Describe the food and dining at your college.

Occasionally, the cafeteria food has some good and tasty options but the majority of the time, there is nothing appetizing or it does not taste good. They try to have a lot of healthy food options which can be important. Everyday, there is a salad bar and a deli station where you can make your own salad or sandwich with a panini press. There is a station called global where either someone makes you the dish they are serving for that meal or you can serve yourself depending on what the dish is. Monday-Thursday and now on Saturday there is an option called late night where you can use a meal swipe if you did not eat dinner in the cafeteria (or you can choose to spend either cash, credit card, or dining dollars) to order from a list of different foods. A few examples are wraps, salads, and quesadillas. Within a time period, you can go to the Jay's Nest (where late night is served) and buy pre-made sandwiches, pasta, soup, or a large variety of snacks. Personally, I prefer the Jay's Nest and late night food over the cafeteria's food.

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

Social life on campus needs work. There are numerous events that happen throughout the weeks and months, but nothing too exciting. Sometimes there is a bus trip to events such as The Big E or, recently, a trip to New York. Since a lot of people go home on the weekend, there might not be a lot of people to do things with. Off campus, there are a lot of stores and restaurants to go to. There are two main areas, Blue Back Square and Bishops Corner. Freshmen are allowed to have cars which is nice because both locations are a quick drive. If you do not have a car, it will be a longer walk.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

Honestly, University of Saint Joseph is an expensive university. I feel like this university is worth it because the education you receive here is challenging and rewarding.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

If you are a woman who wants a great education, consider applying to University of Saint Joseph. Yes, it is an all-women's university. However, do not let that fact prevent you from considering this university. If you like a more personal relationship with your professors, apply to this university. It is a small university which allows the relationship between you and your professors to be better which will help you earn better grades.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

There is a club for everyone. There are many clubs to join which target different areas of interest.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

There is none.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

Campus safety is great. The officers are wonderful. I had a roommate problem and the officer who was in charge of my case was very nice and very helpful. My friend has locked herself out of her room several times and had to call Public Safety. They were nice every time. I do not know of any issues dealing with safety at University of Saint Joseph.
