Do you feel you’re learning a lot?

UNL has a world-renowned staff and their classes show it, the professors are great, they really know their subject material and many are engaged in ground-breaking research in their respective fields. What's more, if you ever have questions on any subject there are resource centers all over campus to help you out. But best of all are the students, while I'm learning tons in my classes, I'm also learning outside of them as I frequently discuss life, the universe and everything with my friends from class and roommates.

Do you enjoy the experience at your school?

I love college, and I love UNL! This University does everything it can to ensure that everyone has a great time. The University Programming Council hosts fun events about once a month (including concerts, plays, dances, midnight pancake feeds, etc) and other clubs and organizations always have something going on (Soap Carving Club, Nebraskans against the Unethical Treatment of Squirrels, Intramural Water Polo), and the dorms have dances and mixers as do the Greek houses. If there is an activity you want to do, it's here, and if it's not, the University makes it easy to create the group and I bet you'll find a fair few friends to join you!

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

I am getting an amazing education for really, a lot less money than some people. Other comparable universities cost up to $12,000 more to attend than UNL, and with no greater of an educational value. The University did a great job lining me up with prospective scholarships and helping provide with me as much financial aid as they were able including grants, loans and a generous work-study.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Students who are planning to come to UNL would do well to go on a tour of the University before making their final decision. Campus is HUGE and this can be overwhelming and frightening on the first day when you only have 10 minutes between classes and no idea where you're going. I've known more than one person who had to drop out because the school was simply too big for them. Another tip is to room with a stranger, I know how scary that sounds, but trust me, you'll be grateful you did. If you room with a friend you might use them as a safety net and this could prevent you from really branching out and getting to know all the new people in your life. My last tip is to enroll as an undeclared major, or at the very least, keep an open mind and take a random selection of *applicable* classes your first semester. You might be shocked at what tickles your fancy and eventually leads you to your ultimate academic passion and career.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

Anyone who's unsure what they want to do with their life should come to UNL, we have amazing general education classes and career services here. Also, we have a huge multitude of majors so when you finally do come to a decision chances are slim that your major wont be offered. Also for student athletes, the university is very conscious of the commitments student athletes have to their sports and are very accommodating for the most part. They will also get the full support of the student body as UNL prides itself on it's support of Husker Athletics in any form! If you want to meet people from many walks of life, if you want to discover new parts of yourself, if you want a wide variety of classes and a chance to grow as an individual then the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is the place for you!
