At UNL, you will take a lot of classes that pertain to your major, but you will also have the opportunity to take elective classes on diverse subjects that will make you a well-rounded and well-informed individual. You can choose classes in the subjects and at the difficulty that interest you, so you can make your college education as challenging as you want it to be.
Do you enjoy the experience at your school?
A wonderful thing about UNL is that there are so many people and everybody is really friendly, so the chances of meeting friends that share your interests are very high. Even if you come from out of state and don't know a single person when you move in, I can almost guarantee that you will have at least one friend by the end of the first week of classes. Another great thing is the variety of activities you can get involved in on campus. There are so many student organizations, so while you are here you can work on developing your character and leadership as well as your mind.
Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?
There are tons and tons of scholarships that you can apply for. After your first year, you just have to fill out one application for your department/college and they will do the work for you and look for any/all departmental scholarships that you qualify for!
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
College life is undoubtedly better than high school, but don't forget why you're there! Treat your classes like a full-time job. Show up every day, on-time, and do your work. Take advantage of the resources that are put there for you, such as your professors' office hours, teaching assistants, and don't forget about the upperclassmen! They might've taken the same class, or know the professor, and might have some tips for you!
Which types of students will excel at your college?
UNL is great for students who are looking for a challenging and rewarding college experience, and those who want to do more than just learn. You will walk out of here not just a better scholar, but a better person. Your college experience is what you make it--you can get as much or as little out of it as you choose. And at UNL, you are given all of the tools and resources to make it great.
