Review of University of Nebraska-Lincoln

from Iowa City, IA

Do you feel you’re learning a lot?

Looking back at high school, I never really applied myself to learn as much as I could. Now being in college, its a whole new schooling system and it means a lot more when you are learning for something you are going to do for the rest of your life. I am majoring in Biology and have learned SO much already in my first month and a half already. Everything from how to study, to how to take a test correctly, to individual concepts to even knowing how to make friends.

Do you enjoy the experience at your school?

I LOVE being here in Lincoln, Nebraska. I am from Iowa City, Iowa and I think choosing to go out of state was very scary not knowing anyone from Lincoln but it was probably the BEST decision I've ever made in my life, even though my family was not a huge supporter of leaving Iowa, I would recommend leaving wherever you are and trying something different because more then likely you'll end up loving it just like me!

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

Although going to an out of state school is expensive, I think it is completely worth it. I recently visited my old hometown, and saw my friends that all went to the same college. They are all still the same and hanging out with the same people, where as I got away and was forced to grow up and meet new people. The football here is AMAZING and is now entering the BIG TEN! (who doesn't LOVE that?!) The campus is so pretty, and all classes are within ten minutes walking distance so you usually will never be late to a class! It is very greek here, meaning a lot of people join fraternities and sororities, which you can rush for during the summer. Overall, this is a great school for the price you are paying and although there are COLD winters, I wouldn't choose to go anywhere else!

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Visit as many schools as you can before you set your heart on one, and even though it may sound scary to go away from your family and friends and leave everything your used to behind, don't be afraid to pursue and try something different. You will learn to respect and love your family so much more. Really consider the price of the college and think about how much you will actually have to be paying. I am paying for my own college, and even though it is a lot of money to go to the University of Nebraska, I think I am gaining so much for the money I am putting into the school. Don't be afraid that you will not make friends... I PROMISE everyone feels the EXACT same way you do! The sooner you figure out the college you want to go to, THE BETTER! What I mean by this is; Take your time narrowing down the colleges you like and visiting them, BUT as the end of your senior year approaches, your going to want to enjoy it without the stress of college on your mind! So, take your time thinking about choosing but get it done in reasonable time to ENJOY your senior year! HAVE FUN! this is the BEST time in your life! Go somewhere you are going to have a great time and be able to study too! This is the time before reality starts for all of us in the working world. Good luck and hope you really consider all I've said!

Which types of students will excel at your college?

Univeristy of Nebraska-Lincoln is great for... FOOTBALL LOVERS- the huskers football games are AMAZING, its a completely different experience at every school but I've got to say, seeing the flood of red every single game ENGINEERS- This is a GREAT school for engineer pursuers. The college of engineering is very skilled and although difficult, it is a great school. SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BE IN A SORORITY OR FRATERNITY- This campus is mainly greek, and the sorority house's and fraternity house's actually surround the campus, they are closer to your classes then the dorms are! If you think you need people to study with or tutors, this campus's dorms are made up of floors where everyone has your major! It's EXTREMELY nice! You can always walk right next door if you have any questions! IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS CAMPUS OR SCHOOL PLEASE PLEASE FEEL FREE TO MESSAGE! :)
