Review of The University of Tennessee-Chattanooga

Do you feel you’re learning a lot?

I am a freshman at UTC this year and have learned so much already. Classes can be difficult or easy, it all depends on what the student would like to take. Taking challenging classes is great here, I can push myself to learn even more by doing this. There are plenty of opportunities to explore a wide variety of classes for those who are undecided through general education requirements.

Do you enjoy the experience at your school?

I LOVE being here. The dorms are some of the best in the state. Having apartment style rooms is great because students can cook, and not have to feel crammed in a tiny room to eat, sleep, and study in. The campus is not too big, but not too small. Having 10,000 is a great size. The campus is fairly compact so one can get anywhere in only a few minutes, but don't push it (I've tried, not recommended ;) There are tons of ways to get involved, intramurals, clubs to fit any personality and greek life are all popular choices. Greek life is much more relaxed than other schools, so give it a try!

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

The price is definitely worth the education you receive. This campus is the up-and-coming UT campus, and many renovations are being done to bring this school to its full potential. New buildings and state of the art facilities are being added including a renovated Grote Hall and a new recreation center. The professors at UTC really care about their students so you are guaranteed a great education for an in-state price.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Please come visit! Maybe I'll see you around! :) If a student does apply, please apply for housing at the same time, don't wait! Even if you are not sure you are going to attend it is worth the small deposit fee, to guarantee a housing spot. Make sure the application is complete and on time! Be yourself! Have fun with the college admission process.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

Student who learn better in smaller class sizes, non-traditional students and those who prefer to live at home and commute. Other than general education classes, most have what I call a 'high school' class size, around twenty-ish. Calling all business majors, the business school here is ranked one of the best in the country. It is great for students who do not want to be overwhelmed by a 30,000 student school, but would get bored at a small school with a thousand students. I love it! :)
