Review of Tallahassee State College

Do you feel you’re learning a lot?

I have been taking most of the regular classes to get my AA degree to be able to transfer. I have learned and I am still learning a good bit from my teachers. Some teachers just give you assignments, and don't give you a rubric, where others can tell you what format to use, like MLA, and then change it how they want it. Not only are you going to learn about the subject at TCC, but you will also learn how to follow directions. I think that college is not supposed to be difficult, but a puzzle. You have to learn how to follow directions, because if you miss one little thing, it can ruin your grade.

Do you enjoy the experience at your school?

School is school, and not everyone can enjoy going. I like it for the atmosphere and the people there. People at TCC are usually very friendly and willing to help and talk to you. There always of course the people who seem stupid, mean, or rude, but the best thing about college is that dealing with them is optional. The teachers are also very friendly and willing to help you understand things easier, just as long as you respect them and do not disrupt the class.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

For the price you pay to go to TCC, it is more than worth it. It is cheaper then a university and you are getting the same exact credit. The class rooms are smaller, so you can ask your teacher questions during class instead of waiting until they have time to try and get an answer. You are paying for this, and getting a little bit better quality than people who go to universities.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

For starters, if you can, get as many credits out of the way in High School as possible. You will not have to worry about paying for those classes, and you will be ahead in the game a little. If you can not do that, there are other things you can do to make sure you do well. One would be picking your teachers wisely. Of course you have the teachers that do not teache well or a strict. You can use ratemyproffesor.com, but be careful, cause they may not always be true. Another good tip would be to ask students who they took and they liked. You can get a lot of options from that and look for the classes with those teachers that fit your schedual. Of course studying is a bit part of it all and they more you study and practice, the easier it can be. Also, go to class. Even if the teacher says they don't do attendance, which most do, you can miss out on a lot.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

It is great for any kind of student. If you don't know what to do with yourself but want to go to college, a community college is better than a university and this school is perfect for those. I know what I am doing and it is helping me knock out my prerequisite.
