Rebecca's Review

Review of Suffolk University

from Warwick, RI

Describe your college in three sentences.

The location of Suffolk University is absolutely incredible. The professors are kind, personal, and helpful. The students are welcoming and engaging.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

There are lots of programs to get involved in at Suffolk. Don't wait! Get involved right away with anything you are interested in...I waited and regret it. I definitely recommend the Honors program for any eligible participants. It is rigorous but rewarding. The best advantage is that all Honors students get early registration for classes...you are almost always guarenteed a spot in the classes that you want, which is great because the classes are very small.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

I definitely think that Suffolk is academically rigorous. In my experience, however, I was challenged academically but not overwhelmed. For me, this is exactly what I wanted. I did not want to go to a school where academics were so high that there was no time for relationships of any kind. I think that it is amazing to be able to get a great education from a respected university without sacrificing the people that you love.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

I really cannot say since I am a commuter, but my friends thoroughly enjoy the community on their floors. I will say that living on campus is EXTREMELY expensive...I guess that is what you get in Boston. But the people that I have talked to say that it is a fun and exciting place to live!

Describe the food and dining at your college.

I'm a commuter so I would not know about campus food (although I have not heard good things about it), however, there is PLENTY of delicious food all around Boston to enjoy. I highly recommend Snappy Sushi and Georgetown Cupcake...both on Newbury Street. There is plenty of Chipotle and Panera to enjoy as well!

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

Hmmm...well, I absolutely LOVE history! So I highly recommend the freedom trail which starts in the common and finishes at the Bunker Hill Memorial. Along the way you get all kinds of interesting facts about the history of the city from a tour guide dressed in period appropriate clothing. Also check out Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market. The Harbor is amazing for great views...For shopping? Check out Newbury Street! For food...Boylston Street. Enjoy!

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

I have never felt unsafe on campus. You constantly will see our Suffoll University Police patrolling the area in order to check on all of us. Additionaly, Suffolk offers a police escort any time, day or night, if for whatever reason you felt uncomfortable. I have never needed to ask for this, though.
