Review of SOWELA Technical Community College

from Lake Charles, LA

Describe your college in three sentences.

Small classes make it easier to learn. The teachers want you to pass, so they will go great lengths to help you score that A. Such a breeze than a big university!

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

I went to 2 different universities. Big universities. Being on this small campus feels welcoming. If you are a high school student, please come to class. Coming to class is going to be your best friend. The teachers give TEST and EXAM reviews!! Some even give you the exact questions. You will miss important information to help you pass.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

The classes are easy, yet hard. Depending on your teacher. In all the classes I take, I feel like I am learning and retaining the information that is given. Some teachers make you think. Some teach by the book, and some toss the book out. BTW, those are the best teachers. They teach you real life experiences out in your field.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

No dorms here on this community campus

Describe the food and dining at your college.

They have a little hanger that they have food in. I have yet to go to it, but others say it is yummy. BTW, they only take cash!

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

They have an activity every week. They also have different types of sessions to attend to better you as a person and as a student.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

A lot of different clubs. If you have an idea to start one up, present it to them. Majority of the time it is accepted!

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

We always have officers on campus. The campus is also located on an old air force base. It is also just a couple minutes from the State Troopers Unit and the Sheriff's Department. It would be very hard to feel unsafe or have a situation happen. Very safe campus to be on.
