Veronica's Review

Review of Seton Hall University

from Bridgewater, NJ

In which ways do you feel you are learning and growing?

Seton Hall has always supported me in my learning. The small class sizes help me to get to know my professors well, which has led to good connections. My professors are there to make sure that I am succeeding in my classes. As an education major, I also love that I am already getting the hands-on experience in an actual classroom. Actually being a part of the dynamic of a real classroom, as well as teaching a lesson plan in front of students, has made me more confident in my educational abilities.

How are you enjoying your time at this college?

I love being here at Seton Hall. This was my top choice of schools, and it has proven to be worth it. All of the people here are so welcoming, and I always feel like there is some event happening. I also love how close it is to New York, which is always an easy and fun experience.

What tips can you share with prospective students?

When looking for a college, find a place where you can imagine yourself doing the mundane tasks. While going to class is important, this will also be the place where you will do laundry, complete homework, hang out with friends, etc. Find yourself a school where you see yourself doing all aspects of life.

What qualities do you have that have best prepared you for success at this institution?

I think I am an outgoing person, which has made it easier for me to make friends. This was also good for recruitment, where I joined a sorority and met lots of new people.

In what ways do you feel this college challenges students academically?

This college is definitely rigorous, especially depending on your major. I feel challenged with my work, as teachers try to teach in the zone of proximal development (a term I learned in my education classes!). While they do want you to succeed, they also want to make sure that you are learning needed information to help you in your future careers.

How would you describe the dorm life at this school?

I enjoy dorming here on campus. The dorms have lounges, which are especially good for doing school work, watching movies, or just hanging out. My room is pretty spacious, and I feel like I can fit all of my belongings. Even this year in the upperclassmen dorm, I still think that they are made nicely.

How would you describe the food and dining options?

The food is good here. A lot of the stations are create your own, which means that you have control over the food that you are eating. I especially love the pasta station and the sandwich station, as I feel I can be the most creative with them. They also usually have a good cycle of premade foods for the grab-and-go experience as well.

In your experience, what is there to do for fun at this college?

All of the different clubs and organizations keep me busy on campus. I also love going into NYC or Hoboken for fun, as it gives me and my friends something to do. I also love just hanging out with my friends in their dorms or in a lounge, just watching a movie. We also have gone into the UC and played pool together, which was a good time.

In what clubs or organiziations have you participated and how have they impacted your overall experience?

I am a part of a sorority, which has definitely improved the experience overall. There is always some sort of event happening, and I have met the most incredible people. They keep me driven and passionate to give back to the greater good.

Are there any quirky or unique traditions that make your college special?

We have a tradition with the seal in the middle of campus, where if you step on it, you will not graduate on time. It is funny because it will be a busy day, with students walking all around, and they will purposefully avoid it and walk around it.

How does this institution support campus safety or mental health and wellness programs?

Mental health is taken very seriously here. We have CAPS, which is our counseling and psychological services, here on campus. It is always available to all students. We also have access to headspace, which can help students to deal with stress. As for physical safety, one of the things that drew me to Seton Hall was the fact that it is a gated campus. I always feel safe walking around alone at night.

How has your college supported your career development and future goals?

Seton Hall continuously gives me opportunities to further myself in my professional career, but it also gives me a hands-on experience. It also has networking events all the time to help students connect with people already in the field. We also have a career center, which helps students find jobs and internships and helps them work on professional skills.
