Northland is located in the beautiful woods of northern Wisconsin, giving it a wonderful atmosphere to learn in a peaceful environment. The faculty and staff truly care about their students, and the student body is like a family. The academics definitely challenge the students but are very rewarding considering students receive a biblical viewpoint in every class.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
Tips for Prospective Students:
- Don't be afraid of not knowing anyone; you will definitely be warmly welcomed by many.
- The classes are a bit challenging and take some effort, but are definitely worth the extra work. Plus, teachers are more than willing to take the time to go through something individually with their students.
-Expect Northland to be more than just an educational degree but a life-learning experience. The heart of Northland is expressed in the harmony and unity the student body portrays in everyday life on campus.
Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?
Northland has a variety of different classes on all academic levels. But the teachers will challenge their students in all classes to put in as much effort as possible. Think of Northland as extremely challenging in its academics, but definitely doable for anyone willing to put in time and effort.
Describe the dorm life at your college.
Nothland has separate dorms for the men and women, so I can't say anything about the guys' dorm. But coming from the girls' I can say that it was fantastic! This girls are great at this school. Usually the halls are decently quite, especially after 11:00PM. We have a kitchen and a lounge area on first floor along with a small exercise room. Girls normally are in a room of three or four (depending on student enrollment) and share one bathroom within that room. Closet space is pretty decent plus each girl gets a small set of drawers. Overall, the dorms at Northland (at least the girls') are very enjoyable to live in.
Describe the food and dining at your college.
The food is quite decent as far as college food goes. We have a really nice salad and deli bar with fresh soup everyday and a panini maker. The food selection is pretty good for entrees and there's always a rotation bar that will have another selection everyday (normally baked potatoes, pizza, or tacos).
What’s there to do for fun at your college?
Since Northland is located in the middle of the woods in northern Wisconsin there isn't much for city fun, but Northland does have a couple of lakes on campus and miles of walking/running trails. Pathways in the fall and spring are good for bike riding or running. The closest town is Iron Mountain, MI, about 30 minutes away. Many shops and restaurants are located there, and there is also a cinema where students can go and see the latest movie releases.
