Review of Northeastern University

from Beverly Hills, MI

Describe your college in three sentences.

Northeastern is an urban university that still has a campus. The focus of the program are the co-op jobs that most students take three times throughout their five years at school. The focus is on career-track majors like engineering, pharmacy and computer science.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

If you're interested in the social sciences or the humanities, you'll be in the minority. However, if you're majoring in one of the fields mentioned above, Northeastern is a great school with an awesome campus right in Boston.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

It's very easy to get all As if you just do the reading and show up to class. Most test questions are interested in your recall of presented information as opposed to your thoughts on the information.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

I am in the Honors freshman housing, which is about as swank as you're going to get in a freshman dorm. The building is only a few years old, and I share a bathroom/shower with one other person. Also, the view from the top of the 22 story building is spectacular.

Describe the food and dining at your college.

Delicious food. One dining hall has an all you can eat sushi bar (this is the dining hall in my dorm), another has a Mongolian BBQ style build your own stir fry, and another has cookies that are to die for. Dining Services recently opened a food truck with a rotating (and delicious) menu that can be found outside the library, near the dorms, or doing late night service on the quad. You will be eating well.

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

BOSTON! There are endless activities in the city. If you're interested, you can hop over to MIT and check out dorm row. If that's not your thing, there are endless speakers and carnivals put on by the various student groups. Shopping in the city is also endless fun.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

I have a full tuition National Merit scholarship, so I'm only paying room/board. Personally, it's a very good value because of that. However, I absolutely would not pay full tuition to go here.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have the only Taco Bell in Boston. We also have a tunnel system that lets you get all around the old part of campus without going out in the cold!

Which types of students will excel at your college?

Pharmacy, Engineering, those who have decided what they want to study and are very sure about it.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

There are more student groups than I can count. There's even an online system for keeping track of them all. Definitely no shortage of activities to get involved with.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

There are a few frats and even fewer sororities, but if you're really excited about Greek Life, then Northeastern is probably not for you.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

The NUPD officers are stationed everywhere, and the main part of campus feels very safe, even at night. However, to get to some parts of campus you need to cross the train tracks, and those areas are less safe. You can definitely avoid it if you want to, though.
