Review of New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology
from Socorro, NM
Describe your college in three sentences.
New Mexico Tech is a very good School, and has one of the most difficult curriculum I've seen. However, the reputation of the school with companies across the globe has allowed graduates from this school to easily acquire high paying jobs. So, though the school may be very tough, it is worth it in the end.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
If you are planning on going to Tech as an incoming freshman, then prepare to have little to no social life. New Mexico Tech demands lots of work, inside the classroom or out. Also, if you have scholarships earned, then i would suggest taking the bare minimum to maintain scholarships.
Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?
Very difficult curriculum. Hard to acquire even a 3.5. I finished high school with a 3.8 and finished this semester with a 2.4.
Describe the dorm life at your college.
People are very friendly, and most of them are very helpful if you need help with your classes. RAs are very nice, and helpful if you are new to the college life.
Describe the food and dining at your college.
The Cafeteria is called Chartwells, and it is an all you can eat buffet. They serve all kinds of food there, and on occasion, serve shrimp and steak. there is usually burgers and pizza, and there is also Mexican foods, Chinese foods, and sometimes other cuisines.
What’s there to do for fun at your college?
Tech is a serious college, for serious students, in a small town. The campus doesn't normally have student activities, but there are some. once a semester there is a campus rave, and other fun activities. Dorm olympics, eat outs, and other things of this type.
Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?
The college has a very low cost in comparison for the curriculum.
How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?
Lots of campus safety, and there is very little to no crime on campus.
