Review of New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology
from Socorro, NM
Do you feel you’re learning a lot?
The answer Is definitely. This school is Strongly thrives on the academic status of its students, so of course they provide the tools and resources for student success. the classes are not as big as a regular college I am only a second semester freshman here and I have already learned that my biggest class will be about 100-125 students. Because of the smaller classes the professors get to know the students better and they are always happy to speak with a student one on one.
Do you enjoy the experience at your school?
Yes, I grew up in Denver, Colorado, so at first the move to Socorro, New Mexico was hard. Socorro is an extremely different environment from a big city but there are many activities besides school that help keep many busy. For example, I am a huge work out buff being that i played football in high school so i often use the work out facilities here, which are phenomenal. In addition to my work out schedule I have also picked up rock climbing/ bouldering since i began attending NMT.
Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?
academicallly speaking NMT is Constantly setting the bar higher and higher, no education goes to waste here. However, even though there are many social students at NMT and there are many ways to have fun, tech is not a party school at all but the drive to be at such a renown college keeps many students here and we still find many other , more creative ways to have fun.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
Study habits/ strategies are crucial! Many Students come into NMT thinking that they can get buy on the study habits and strategies from high school when in fact the work is a lot more vigorous in college, and that goes for any college or university.
1) Study 2-3 hours four every credit hour you attempt
2) Find out whether you study better alone or in a group setting and apply your strengths
3)find a tutor immediately if you are struggling. otherwise you will fall way behind. I myself, was actually one of these many students and now I am reforming my study schedule to accommodate for college, I just wish I would have made the decision before my first semester.
Which types of students will excel at your college?
Ambitious, enduring, strong charactered, determined, charismatic students
