Review of Morehouse College

from Starkville, MS

Describe your college in three sentences.

Morehouse is a school filled with history. It is for intellectuals looking to expand their field of view of the world. If you're not ready to learn and become an active member of your community, then don't come to this school.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Go to your professors and counselors if you start to struggle. They are there to help you succeed, and they will do everything in their power to make sure you do so.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

Definitely on the harder side if you end up entering the Honors Program like I did. Otherwise, the course work isn't as difficult as it is enlightening.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

Be prepared to literally live in history. Some of the buildings have been there for over 140 years. They aren't the best, but you will learn to call it home soon enough.

Describe the food and dining at your college.

Definitely watch out for the cafe food. If you're not careful, that freshman 15 will turn into a freshman 30. Mix up some healthy eating habits in between to keep a balanced diet. Also, use your DCBs sparingly. They can save your life towards the end of the semester, so make sure you have enough at that time.

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

There's a lot to do on campus. From Wednesday to Friday of every week (barring midterms and finals), there is an outdoor party on one of the three campuses. If that's not your style, then there are plenty of spots to hit up downtown. You could visit the King Museum, or head over to the park area for some recreational fun. Remember, the fun doesn't find you, you have to find the fun. Don't be afraid to get out of your dorm room and explore a little.
