I couldn't sum it up in 3 sentences. I love being a student at Midwestern State University! The class sizes are small, especially once you get really into your degree plan. I love being able to stop by my professors office and ask questions without having to wait long periods of time to see them. The campus is absolutely beautiful, with tons of green space for students to use for recreational purposes. The faculty and staff are wonderful and work very hard to help you with whatever you need. There are tons of job opportunities on campus ranging from student assistants, sales associates in the bookstore, to the fabulous tour guides in the welcome center. Also, there are over 100 groups, clubs, and organizations all around campus, so finding your perfect fit is easy. I hope you strongly consider becoming an MSU mustang, and make my university, yours!
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
Definitely go to the free tutoring sessions! Take advantage of any and all workshops, TA's, SI's, and group studies. Also, check out the help labs in the various colleges; the English writing lab provides free coffee!
Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?
It's pretty tough in the core classes, but I feel that once you start taking the classes specifically for your major, you'll being to enjoy them more! We have many accredited programs on campus, as well!
Describe the dorm life at your college.
I lived in killingsworth as a freshman and loved every minute of it. I think the office of residence life does a great job of providing students with the best, from RA's, to the friendly custodial staff. I would suggest being a resident to anyone!
Describe the food and dining at your college.
The food is pretty great! We have a starbucks, Einstein bagels, chick fil a, burrito bowl, and an exceptional burger place, all within the student center. We also have our cafeteria that provides students with a variety of food options, from burgers, to pizza, to deli style sandwiches.
What’s there to do for fun at your college?
Res-life, or the office or residence life, does a great job of providing activities and events to the students on campus. Also, the student development and orientation office as well as UPB work towards giving the students several weeks of activities through out the semester. You could find yourself eating cake with Maverick, running down the bunji run lane, or riding a mechanical bull in front of Prothro-Yeager.
How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?
We have an extremely secure campus! We have officers that rotate, to ensure that we have someone on duty 24 hours. Also, our campus offers a service to where you can register your phone number and receive alerts from campus police letting us know of campus closures, delays, shooters, tornados, etc. I have never felt unsafe at any point, while I've been at MSU.
