Review of Marquette University

from Radcliff, KY

Do you feel you’re learning a lot?

Going into my first year of college I was worried I wouldn't be fully prepared for the academic side of school. But when I got there that fear went straight out of my mind. All of my professors were extremely helpful in the transition from high school to college life. The courses were not easy and I had to work hard, but through working hard on my own and with the professors, who really make themselves available to their students, I was able to understand all of the advanced concepts they were teaching in class. I felt so much more intelligent returning home after my first semester. I was able to engage in actual adult conversations with my parents and their friends because I was well informed and understood what was going on. It was an incredible feeling and I don't know how I could have lived without it for so long.

Do you enjoy the experience at your school?

I honestly struggled when I first got to Marquette to make friends. I was shy and unlike most of the students I was from a small public school in the middle of Kentucky, I was worried I wouldn't fit in. But when I finally stepped outside of my comfort zone I met some of the most amazing people who I know will be my friends for life. Besides all the wonderful people and staff, the campus itself is beautiful. Milwaukee is a great city for a university. The city is the perfect size which gives the feeling of a close-knit tie to the community and a feeling of being safe in your surroundings. Another selling point is even though you are in a city, when you are in the middle of campus you can't even tell. You can not hear the hustle of the city standing in the middle of the academic buildings, which is wonderful when your trying to study out on the grass on one of those beautiful Wisconsin days. I love Marquette, I couldn't imagine myself anywhere else.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

Being completely honest Marquette is an expensive school and I do struggle to pay every semester to continue to attend but for the connections made with students and professors it is absolutely worth it. You learn so much and meet so many people you are definitely getting your bang for the buck.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Go for a campus visit! You'll know right then whether or not Marquette is the school for you.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

Marquette is great for all types of students. Students who are social will certainly florish here, but so will students who normally keep to themselves. There are many opportunities for students who enjoy community service work as well because of the city setting. Marquette is not for a student wanting a closed campus, because we are in the middle of Milwaukee spreading from 10th down to about 19th Street. And even though the undergraduate level can be considered large, the class sizes are small and you are not just a number.
