Review of Marquette University

from Chicago, IL

Describe your college in three sentences.

Marquette has a very nice atmosphere that makes it feel like a small school but is big enough to be social. The academic rigor is high, I would recommend it to all health science majors. The opportunities here are endless and the school is very well connected with the surrounding community.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Make sure you visit before you apply, it will help you make your final decision easier. Shadow a student (go on the website must be 3 weeks in advance). Be yourself and find the school that reflects you best.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

The academics are overall pretty difficult. I happen to have a difficult major but it really does depend on your major. I would say overall that the academic are the perfect difficulty and the teachers will help you if you reach out for assistance, it is fast paced and it takes time to get used to as a freshman.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

Dorm life is great here. Most dorms are very nice and the community is very close in the dorms. We often have social gatherings and parties together when we need a break from studying. It is a safe environment and really becomes a second home.

Describe the food and dining at your college.

Great food choices! The dining hall choices are very extensive. You have an unlimited meal plan which is very convenient and many options (50s diner, Cafe Italino, Classic Dining Hall, Einstein bagels, etc.)

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

You can go to either one of the rec centers for exercise classes. Late night Marquette has free events all year round. There are school sponsored trips. Two big malls are located about 20 min away, the beach is 4 miles away, you can explore downtown, or just have a little social gathering with friends.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

Yes, Marquette is a private university and can be pretty pricey but overall I think it is worth it. If you have good grades you can get scholarships, look out for alumni scholarships and outside scholarships to help you out.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

City-wide scavenger hunt, our green spaces have wierd names (central mall and westowne square). We have a campus turkey (unofficial mascot)

Which types of students will excel at your college?

Great for students that want a balance between academics and a social life. Great Physical Therapy Program and Engineering Program! If you are considering PA look into applying in to the Marquette Physician's Assistant Program early.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

There is a club for just about anything you like to do. If there isn't one (rare) you can make one. Intermurals and club sports are fun activities that you can do without varsity commitment.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

Greek life is pretty big at Marquette. If thats something you are interested in go for it. Each one has a charity and activitely contributes to the Marquette community.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

Overall, I would say Marquette is safe. I wouldn't recommend walking around alone late at night. There are security cameras installed everywhere, LIMO service that can pick you up and take you where you need to go, blue lights that you can press if you feel uncomfortable the public safety people will come to you within a few seconds.
