Do you have any tips for prospective students?
I think that my number one tip for a prospective student is to not be nervous. College is a whole new experience that every incoming freshmen has never experienced before. Everyone is on the same boat. The more you open yourself up to stepping out of ones comfort zone the more you get to learn about yourself and the world around you. Another huge tip that I would give every prospective student is to get involved. There is not an easier and more efficient way to meet more students, faculty. staff and administrators than by getting involved in different, events, committees, clubs, etc. on campus.
Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?
When a student graduates from middle school, high school is most likely and usually is just one step above (academically speaking) than middle school. I think most students need to keep in mind that college is what is shaping and molding us into what we are going to make of our future, which puts it a couple more steps above what high school. That being said, the academic rigor that one finds in a university setting is a 100% more challenging but at the same time it's 100% more rewarding. The classes and material is a lot more difficult, but what you get out of it is a lot more. I think the hardest part about being in a university setting is that for the most part you are away from home, which gives us, as a student the responsibility of doing our work and doing it on time.
Describe the dorm life at your college.
College is so exciting because as a student you are living away from home. Not only is it a place where you meet new people but it is your home away from home. College becomes your new home for the next four years and the people around you not only becomes your friends but they essentially become your family. Particular only to loyola; loyola has the #1 best co-ed dorms in the country and overall the #2 best dorms in the country. There are a variety of living styles which fit our different personalities including, doubles, suites, apartments, lofts, and townhouses.
Describe the food and dining at your college.
Food is a huge concern for many applicants. Unlike other schools Loyola does not have a meal plan. We have more of a debit card system. In my mind, I believe that this is a more efficient way to use our money because we are paying for exactly what we're eating. We have two main dining facilities on campus which include Boulder Garden Cafe` (Moe's southwestern grill, salad bar, soup, to-go food, pasta bar, boars head, bagels, vocelli's pizza, WOW grill etc.) and Iggy's which includes our very own supermarket as well as many other options that boulder has already.) In an university setting the food can get boring or redundant that's why Loyola is so great. Loyola is for the students and we can ask for changes on our menu. We also have mein bowl and Ikigaii which are our Chinese food and sushi providers on campus. Loyola keeps us very well fed. At most campus events we have free food from our on campus caterers Sodexo.
What’s there to do for fun at your college?
Every fall semester Loyola holds an activities fair on the academic quadrangle or QUAD for short. This is where every club on campus has a table set up with information on their club or organization. It gives you an opportunity to pursue your interests while at the same time be a part of something completely new.
