Review of Lansing Community College

from Lansing, MI

Describe your college in three sentences.

I enjoy learning at LCC. My only disappointment is that there seems to be more busy work just for the sake of habit then for reason of learning. My best learning has come from classes that are engaged in the classroom and make us think outside the box rather than just working on assignments.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

My tips for prospective students would be to start with the right attitude of planning to give it your all, don't give up and don't be afraid to let the instructors know if you are not getting it.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

There is a consistent theme of excellence in the school and high standards, which I appreciate. My grade point is a 3.85 which I am very proud of because I know how hard it was to maintain it. To maintain a high grade point, you must keep on course and not miss class or get lazy with homework. But, in the end it will be worth it.

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

I like to read, spend time with my family, and work in the community with different cultural initiatives. My favorite is coordinating the African American Parade and Heritage Festival for my place of work, who is a sponsor of the event. Since LCC is in the heart of the city, a lot of the parade participants can park at the school during the parade.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

Getting involved with cultural events started with work when I had the opportunity to teach classes on diversity and inclusion. I found it so rewarding that I became a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Council. I have been honored to have been taught by some wonderful instructors at LCC on Diversity in the Workplace.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

There are great classes for students who have English as a second language. LCC is very committed to seeing that every student has every opportunity to success.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

There are numerous clubs and activities at LCC. The best place to find out what is happening is to go to the Gannon building and watch on the internal TV the coming events. Also there is a Marketing club that is second to none.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

LCC has the best security! Besides having on campus security, they have a degree in criminal justice and have interns patrolling as part of the degree.
