Review of High Point University

from Saint Albans, VT

Describe your college in three sentences.

High Point University has a variety of fields to study, a variety of clubs/academics to join. It has many opportunities to explore; study abroad, volunteer work, off campus activities, etc. This school is definitely one for those who want to accept every challenge thrown at them and do extraordinary things.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Visit the campus for sure! It is beautiful, but don't just accept pictures you see on social media, come see it for yourself; you'll love it. I highly recommend applying for scholarships. There's a lot of costs that are part of the college experience. I'd also try to get in touch with other students if you can, even email admissions, try to get connected with the school community. It will help you adjust to the college life!

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

This isn't high school anymore. Classes get tougher, homework loads increase, and classes are longer. It can be challenging, you just have to put the effort in. Procrastination is not an option because you can't always retake or make up the things you miss. Some of the content can be hard to understand. Thankfully, there are tutors for almost everything imaginable, I recommend checking this out before classes even start; especially if you know you aren't the strongest in a subject. I do believe if you work hard, pay attention, and go to class, you'll be perfectly fine.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

There are many different living options on this campus. Dorms that are all boys, all girl, or co-ed. There are also different amounts of people you can live with; you can have one roommate, three roommates, even seven roommates. If you're more of a social butterfly living in a building that has a hall bath is definitely recommended, if you're more of a to yourself kind of person a suite is recommended. Roommates and suitemates are great, but definitely make friends outside of your living quarters!

Describe the food and dining at your college.

There are many different dining options. We have Starbucks, Jamba Juice, Chick-Fil-A, Subway, the Café, the Bakery, the Grille, the Diner, and the Point which is like a sports bar. There's a plethora of dining/food options. We have convenient stores, and Domino's delivers! You'll never go hungry here.

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

There are clubs, intramurals, sports, anything you can imagine on campus. There's an arcade, a movie theater, and the gym (if you find that fun of course). We also have shuttles that take you to activities off campus. For example, a ropes course or trampoline world, etc. There's a bunch of activities to do on campus and off campus. Just find a group of friends to go with, or go on your own and make new ones! High Point University is definitely a school you won't be bored at.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

You'll be able to find something that interests you. If you can't make your own club or activity group! There's everything from clubs sports to French club, or clubs specifically for your major. Everything imaginable. Definitely go to the clubs/activities fair, get to know what there is to do!

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

Greek life isn't like the movies on this campus. Most of the sororities and fraternities are friendly and welcoming. However, you are not allowed to rush until second semester of your freshman year--this allows you to look into Greek life and make sure it's something you want to do. Not everyone gets into their top picks, but I think everyone gets into Greek life.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

Campus safety is huge here. There is security everywhere. Which can be good and bad. They are super friendly and they aren't trying to get you in trouble--just be responsible. We also have security stations in case you need help, these stations are easy to navigate and are simple to use. You can feel safe on this campus for sure.
