Abby's Review

Review of Glenville State University

from Tioga, WV

In which ways do you feel you are learning and growing?

Mentally: Just attending here and learning more from peers and professors. My eyes have been opened to a diverse group of opinions to where I can now make my own about the world.
Emotionally: I have learned to deal with many things like stress, anxiety, procrastination and to overall not make a huge deal out of things because I tend to overthink.
Educationally: I love what I have studied and learned so far about literature in general. I love learning the deeper aspects of short stories, poems, journals, etc.
Personally: Overall, I have become a woman. I hold my head high and I know that I am successful where I am in life at the moment. I have overcome certain issues and have even learned to let go when it is hard.

What qualities do you have that have best prepared you for success at this institution?

Patience: When it comes to overcoming schooling and life in general, one must be patient with themselves. It's OK to get criticism, acceptance, and failure for some actions you take. Patience may be a virtue for you if you can accept that others have different ideas from your own while they accept yours.
Free-thinking: When one can think for oneself instead of following the footsteps of others, bigger things are bound to occur. The possibilities are virtually limitless when the world is receptive to fresh concepts. Some people believe that there is only so much, but if you attempt to find the positive side of things, you will be able to embrace others and yourself more.
Note-taking: NOTES, NOTES, NOTES! Writing is one task for which a college student must be ready. The best strategies for surpassing others in your topic are to write down important terminology, record the lecture (if the professor permits), and paraphrase it so that you understand it. They also help to review for essays, quizzes and final exams.

In what clubs or organiziations have you participated and how have they impacted your overall experience?

Student Government Association (SGA): I am currently in the secretary position of Glenville's SGA. It has been beneficial for gaining close-listening skills, key concepts, knowledge with a diverse group of students. My position includes taking the minutes from each meeting, typing those out for the next meeting, holding all official documents, acting at the discretion of the President, etc.
The Student Support Services Department (TRIO): This department has been a crucial aspect in my life that has completely changed who I am as a person. I could not be more thankful for the people that work there and push me to strive for the best. They believe in not only myself but tons of other students that are involved with the program. They make the college life fun and adventurous. I 100% recommend people joining the program if they can.
