Review of Georgia Institute of Technology-Main Campus

from Rex, GA

Describe your college in three sentences.

Overall, it's great school. Graduating from here will give you a reputation before you even enter the workplace, but the academic rigor you go through to get that degree is the reason why.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

There's always more work to do. Downtime is a must, but every hour you need to make sure you've accomplished something semi-productive. If you don't have an answer, you're doing something wrong. Have a strong base of friends who want to see you succeed. NOBODY escapes Tech without having a strong support group and get to know your professors. Sure you'll see them as people who just want to make your life miserable, but in reality, they just want to see you succeed.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

There's a reason Georgia Tech has the reputation that it does. Employers know that Tech students can handle nearly anything and that's because of the insanity they went through as students. The work can easily swamp if you're not careful so stay on top of your assignments.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

The dorms aren't necessarily anything special. A lot of people are pretty easy to get along with but keep in mind GT is a pretty nerdy school, so you already know what you're getting into.

Describe the food and dining at your college.

The food is pretty good, no real complaints. There are three dining halls on campus none of which are bad but there's easily a hierarchy in the three.

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

There's plenty to do for fun. The recreation center is great, 6 basketball courts a recreational pool area, a lap pool and an entire floor of world class gym equipment. Plus, GT is right in the middle of Atlanta, so you're never more than a train or bus ride from any major events in the city.

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

In some recent magazine article, GT was rated number one in regards to value in regards to tuition costs.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are plenty of quirky traditions on campus including the Freshman Cake Race where the freshmen who enter all wake up around 6 AM to run a mile where everyone receives a cupcake for participation, and even the Mini 500 which is actually like a tricycle grand prix.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

It's Nerd Heaven, but it's a great place for pretty much anyone. The only people that don't fit in are those who aren't willing to work. They'll be eliminated in due time.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

There's plenty of clubs and activities for students. If you haven't found a club or activity that suits you, you just weren't looking hard enough. There's something for everybody.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

The Greek Life on campus is huge. Though I'm not a direct part of it, I have participated in a few of the events offered by the frats and sororities on campus.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

There's never really too much to worry about on campus. The GTPD does a pretty good job at keeping everything in order, but just like anywhere else, it's your own job to be smart about your belongings and surroundings.
