Review of Georgia Institute of Technology-Main Campus
Describe your college in three sentences.
Spectacular campus with a great balance of innovative architecture and green spaces. Great opportunities and activities every week for students. Classes are challenging enough to make you want to overcome obstacles, rather than make you want to give up.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
Start strong. Take advantage of every opportunity you can, and try to do well on classes since the beginning of the semester, as it can be difficult to improve the grade later on.
Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?
Georgia Tech provides a humbling experience academically as even if you were of the top of your high school class, that is the norm here. You will be surrounded by equally intelligent minds, so academic demand from teachers will be reflected by the quality of their students. Therefore, you will have to study. However, don't see this as something negative. You can learn many things from the other great students, and surely they will learn much from you.
Describe the dorm life at your college.
I was very lucky to be in Montag, one of the newest dorms with bigger rooms. It is close to the Recreation Center and a dining hall. It is located in West Campus. From personal experience, West Campus tends to be more chill, while East Campus is the home to Frat Row and the epicenter of parties. You should choose accordingly to what you believe will benefit you the most in the long run.
Describe the food and dining at your college.
While some may tell you that the Woody's dining hall will be the death of you, I've learned that this is not the case. The food is good, and they have very convenient working hours (until 2am usually). Imagine finishing an assignment at 1am and finding yourself in the need for some comfort food. You can just go to the dining halls and get some midnight breakfast.
You should explore dining plans, and the special dining dollars they offer which are exempt from taxes.
What’s there to do for fun at your college?
There are as many clubs as you can imagine. You can go to the fitness center. Play soccer in the many green areas. Take a hammock and chill. Screw around with your friends. Also, campus is right next to Atlanta, so you can visit downtown and all it has to offer (Georgia Aquarium, World of Coke, etc.)
Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?
The bang for the buck is exceptional. Sincerely, when I came to GT I wasn't 100% sure that I'd made the right decision, but after spending some days here and taking some classes I realized I made the right choice.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Football games are intense, and many traditions surround them.
Also, look for George P. Burdell. Humor me.
Which types of students will excel at your college?
Smart, innovative students. Minds of the future.
Are you involved in any clubs or activities?
If you don't find what you want, you can basically make the club yourself.
Are you involved in any clubs or activities?
I'm not involved in Greek Life, but from what I've heard from friends it's pretty good. They have 40 frats and 20 sororities.
How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?
GTPD will be constantly monitoring campus, being alert for any potential threats. Personally, they are a more capable force than Atlanta PD. At the same time, they will be lenient with you if you commit certain faults. They only want what's best for you. Do not make the same assumption with Atlanta PD. Also, they have emergency call phones all around campus.
