Review of East Texas Baptist University

from san antonio, tx

Describe your college in three sentences.

it was definitely a surprise to me to see just how amazing east texas baptist university actually is! the campus is the perfect size and is absolutely gorgeous. all of the staff and faculty i met with while on my visit were extremely friendly and helpful, they are truly dedicated to making visitors and students feel welcome and at home.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

i was hesitant at first because for some reason i was under the impression that this school was extremely conservative and strict and would be teeny tiny and not very nice or on par with my academic standards. through my visit to campus, that myth in my mind was completely wiped away. this university is beautiful, the student body obviously has a passion for jesus but its not the super conservative independent baptist crowd, southern baptists and really any person of christian denomination would feel right at home and be able to grow in their faith here. i'm a prospective biology/pre-med major and the professor i met with from that department was by far the nicest and most sociable biology professor i've ever met with on any of my college visits.

Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?

i'm a prospective biology/pre- med major who is looking to eventually become a physician assistant. etbu is definitely a small school, but many of their pre-professional students graduate and get into the various types of medical and health professional schools. their nursing program has a 100% pass rate. if you are struggling and need tutoring there are plenty of options available and the professors truly want to help you master the material and succeed.

Describe the dorm life at your college.

the freshman dorm building is beautiful, the nicest freshmen dorm i've visited. it is just about as co-ed as a baptist dorm can be, one half of the building is for guys and the other half for girls. the dorms are apartment style, there are 4 personal bedrooms per dorm, every person has their own room with a real closet, a full sized bed, a ceiling fan and a window. there are two bathrooms in each dorm, and a small common area with a sink, and an area for a mini-fridge and microwave. in each hall there is a game room and a sound proof study room . between the guys half and girls half of the building there is another common area where you are allowed to hang out with the opposite gender til curfew. visiting hours to rooms of members of the opposite sex are i believe until 10pm.

Describe the food and dining at your college.

i ate lunch in the cafeteria and i liked it. the pizza crust had bacon chunks in it. need i say more? its not the largest university cafeteria i've seen but the servers are so nice and the building is clean and a great area to hang out with fellow students.

What’s there to do for fun at your college?

there were game rooms, a gym, a ropes course, and other outdoor activities available on campus. dallas is a few hours away, shreveport is 20 minutes away, longview is 30 minutes and tyler is about an hour away. marshall seems like a cute town and its in a gorgeous area of texas, and is close to caddo lake. if you're into photography or just driving around exploring the country it seems like the prefect place for you!

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

it is a private school and is on the expensive side, but i think the price would be worth it. they have really good scholarships too.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

christian students seeking to grow in their faith and grow academically through small class sizes and dedicated professors.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

they have alot of clubs on campus, from greek life to math club to a large baptist life organization. there's something for everybody.

Are you involved in any clubs or activities?

there are several greek life organizations on campus, all of which are either service or academically oriented.

How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?

while i was visiting i felt safe, but didn't really notice any security features.
