The teachers here so far are high-quality. They care about whether or not you learn what they are teaching you, and they are always willing to answer your questions and meet with you if you are having difficulties. Each has a different teaching style, so you may not get along 100% with everyone. However, in the end, I promise that you will learn at least something from every class.
Do you enjoy the experience at your school?
I really love being here!!!!!! There is right now about 10,000 total students- not too big, not too small. The campus is its own community, and yet if you want to explore the city, it's easily a ten minute walk to get there. There are TONS of activities, sports, and clubs to join, and if you don't see one you like, you are free to create your own. Dormrooms feel a bit cramped, but it's homey, and comes with decent furniture. The campus is nice too (i.e. no litter). Food is decent- not like home cooking, but then again, what is? And finally- be prepared for Steeler mania, cause this is where it's at.
Do you have any tips for prospective students?
one) if you don't know your roommate, call/Facebook with them beforehand, and get to know them; two) if you have any issues during the semester, seek help- RAs, teachers, friends, anyone. It's worth it.; three) go to class, and do your work. It'll make finals so much easier. four) get to know the teacher. It'll make it easier to ask for help if you need it. five) get involved. There's tons of stuff to do. six) you'll get out what you put into your college experience; seven) NEVER go into the city without a buddy, cab money and a cell phone; and finally) it's okay if you feel scared and/or homesick. You're not the first, and you won't be the last to feel that way. And it will pass in time.
Which types of students will excel at your college?
Duquesne is great for everyone- city goers, small-towners, preppies, gamers, jocks, geeks, you name them. There is something for everyone. And no matter what your major is or what you're into, trust me, you will find stuff to do and people to hang out with.
