Curtis's Review

Review of Duquesne University

from Hemlock, NY

Do you feel you’re learning a lot?

Learning is very easy here, the teachers use many methods from group work to recitation sessions and having tutors available for everyone. Teachers are very approachable and easy to communicate with; via e-mail, office hours and many teachers give a phone number as well. Also, many subjects have numerous Teaching Assistants and some even have Undergraduate Assistants that make it even easier to learn the material for courses.

Do you enjoy the experience at your school?

There is so much to do, there are soccer, football, basketball, volleyball and many more games to watch. There are also literally hundreds of clubs and organizations to, multiple intramural activities that are scattered through out the day to fit in anyone's schedule, and numerous events put on by Duquesne, including video game contests and movie nights. Plus there is the city life, professional sporting events, tons of restuarants, fairs, parks, and so much more

Do you feel you’re getting value for the money you’re spending on college?

The experience is definitely worth it, for the great education and the life lessons learned through everything going on, on and off campus.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Research the Pittsburgh area before starting school, the public transportation takes time to get used to and bring a map of the city with you. Stay organized, there are so many students that your teachers aren't going to give too many second chances, many of the schools are very competitive so you don't want your grades to drop below expectations.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

Almost anyone, everyone is friendly and anyone will fit in. There are tons of majors and minors to choose from too that allow almost everybody to be able to apply for what they want to do, but most majors have minimum GPA requirements so you can't be lazy and have to do the work.
