Review of Dallas College

Do you feel you’re learning a lot?

I thought when someone started college, they would just be considered as a number, even in a community college. But at El Centro I've had the pleasure to know teachers that really do care for your success and help you get to where you need to be. I've learned a lot, from management skills to how the human anatomy works. I've grown both academically and emotionally being at this community college.

Do you enjoy the experience at your school?

I've never had any teachers that I've had problems with. Yes, every teacher has a different personality, but if you work with them and actually strive to learn and pass, you can accomplish it. The hallways and buildings aren't crowded, which is a great plus for me.

Do you have any tips for prospective students?

Do not think that college is going to be just like high school but also don't think that college is difficult and impossible. There are so many resources offered at this college if you are struggling or just need some help in counseling or tough classes. Some good programs are Rising Star, Dual Credit, Financial Aid, The Learning Center (free tutoring) and TRIO. For example, TRIO helps you with Tutoring, Advising, Financial Aid, Transfer planning, Workshops, Field trips, Career Counseling and even textbook lending.

Which types of students will excel at your college?

I think El Centro is great for anyone, really. But mainly students who just came out of high school and adults who haven't been in school in a while and have a family or other things going on. El Centro is really diverse in ages, so returning adults won't be out of place in a classroom. You don't even have to know how to drive to get to El Centro! If you take 6 credit hrs in spring/fall or 3 credit hrs in summer, you receive a FREE DART pass. It's a great place for art students and has a great competitive program for nurses.
