Get your books quick! The bookstore is really expensive, so I suggest getting your books online. The professors will start assigning work from the textbooks as soon as classes start, so be ready.
They grade things differently in college. I failed my first algebra test because I wasn't expecting such harsh grading. If you don't understand something, ask your professor about it. There are also lots of tutors in the library who can help with homework and studying.
Lastly, be friendly. Everyone here is really nice, so be nice back. Be understanding and don't lie. I know that seems like something you should already know, but seriously. I know a few people who have obviously lied about their pasts to seem cool, but really if you just be yourself, that's what Cottey people care about the most. We love diversity here! We love to see different people's personalities and interests. So seriously, be yourself!
Do you find there’s enough academic rigor at your school?
The classes here can get pretty tough, but they can be fun too. You will have a lot of homework and trust me, you will learn a lot. The only problem with this is that you may not have a lot of free time.
Describe the dorm life at your college.
The dorm style here is very unique. There are about 10 to 15 students in each suite with a bathroom, living room and a kitchen. The people in your suite will probably be some of your best friends and there are a lot of things people do together with their suits.
Describe the food and dining at your college.
You will LOVE the food here. Everyone does. You will probably gain a little weight while you're here. There are three meals a day every day but Sunday. Sundays we have brunch, which is kind of formal. We also have buffet dinners sometimes with themes like Mexican, Italian, pasta and wings night etc.
What’s there to do for fun at your college?
Nevada is a really small town. There isn't really anything to do off campus most of the time. But there's usually at least one event a week from things like musicians, magicians, guest speakers and more.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Oh, wow, the traditions! Oh, but I can't tell you about those! Sorry, it's a secret until you attend and experience the traditions yourself!
Which types of students will excel at your college?
Anyone (as long as you're female) who is unsure what they want to major in. We also have a pretty good international business program, or so I hear. It's also good if you want to get your general classes done before transferring to another school.
Are you involved in any clubs or activities?
We have a lot of clubs! And if none of them interest you, it's super easy to make your own club!
Are you involved in any clubs or activities?
No sororities. Sorry.
How would you describe campus safety? Do you feel safe on campus?
Really really good! At the beginning of the year you are required to attend a short self defense class, which is pretty helpful. There haven't been any major crimes here, or small crimes either for that matter. We had a fire drill in the middle of the night one time to make sure that it would wake everyone up if need be. We also live on the edge of tornado alley, so we had a tornado drill too.
